Sevilla came back from a
goal down to beat Getafe 4-1 in the first league match of the season. The match
was overshadowed though by the collapse of Antonio Puerta on the pitch during
the first half, the Sevilla player being rushed to an intensive care unit where
he is reported to be seriously ill.
Having already won the
Spanish Super Cup, the Andalusians were in confident mood. But they found
themselves behind in only the second minute when Pablo Hernández curled
a free kick past Palop. Kepa had a chance to make it two, but the visitors
found themselves with nine men by half time after referee Turienzo Alvarez sent
off Sousa for a second bookable offence, and then Cortés for a hard
tackle on Diego Capel.
Laudrup started to make
defensive changes, but just two minutes after the restart Jesús Navas
got on the end of a cross from Duda to head past Pato and level the scores. And
twenty minutes later the hosts scored two more in three minutes, the first when
Luis Fabiano finished off after Kanouté flicked on Duda's centre, and
the second when Kanouté got ahead of his marker to turn Keita's fierce
cross past Pato.
Juande started to rest
players for the upcoming Champions League qualifier, and Kerzhakov came on to
make it four, again with a header from Duda's cross. Sevilla start the season
with a good win, but it could have been very different without those two red
cards. |
