Valladolid didn't let
their midweek cup defeat affect them, the leaders extending their unbeaten
league record to seventeen games after drawing 2-2 at Las Palmas.
Víctor put them ahead following a quickly taken free kick in the
eleventh minute, and then set up Alvaro for a second goal a quarter of an hour
later. But two goals in a two minute period before the break levelled the
scores, the first after Txiki connected with a cross from Nauzet and the second
when Juanma headed on Castillo's free kick (the first goals that the visitors
had let in in the league in almost 400 minutes). Nauzet got himself sent off
for kicking an opponent in between the two goals, but the Canary Islanders held
on for a valuable point.
Cádiz moved up
to third pending Sunday's games with a 1-0 win over Tenerife, extending
their unbeaten run to twelve matches. Medina and Nano went close a couple of
times before Medina opened the scoring after Bernardo could only push out an
effort from César. The Canary Islanders came back after the restart,
with Cristo, Ayoze and Raúl Sánchez all trying their luck, but
Cádiz closed ranks to ensure another victory for the fans, who were
presented with an award as the league's best supporters before the kick off.
Ciudad Murcia are
only two points behind Cádiz though after beating Xerez 1-0. The
visitors started the day level on points with their opponents, and new signing
Abel Aguilar brought a good save out of José Juan before the break.
Julio Iglesias had to be at his best though to keep out Saizar at the other end
after the restart, and on the hour mark Goitom got on the end of Luque's cross
to give the keeper no chance with a well placed header. The locals played out
the last few minutes with ten men after Saizar limped off with all three
changes made.
Ciudad are the only second
division side to remain unbeaten at home this season after Alavés
lost 0-1 in their Mendizorroza stadium to Málaga. Perico stepped
into the shoes of Salva to beat Porato after Jesús Gámez and
Sandro combined to set him up with just under an hour on the clock. Only
Wellington caused any problems for the visiting defence, having one effort
cleared off the line and seeing Arnau save another, although Aloisi could have
side a point for Dmitri Piterman's side had he not fired a last minute shot
over the bar with the goal at his mercy.
Elche kept up their
recent good run under new coach David Vidal, a 0-0 draw at Albacete,
taking them up to fourteenth and leaving their opponents just a place above the
bottom four. César Ferrando's side had not won at home since the end of
September, and although they dominated the match they were not able to beat an
excellent Willy Caballero, who made an important save from Peña near the
end. Calle went close in the first half and Cañas hit the post after the
restart, but in the end they had to make do with a point.
Meanwhile Real Madrid
Castilla climbed above the Manchegans after beating Hércules
0-3, their first win in six games. All three goals came in the second half,
with Negredo getting ahead of a hesitant Agassa to head home the first. Granero
got the second from the penalty spot after new signing Lider Marmol was sent
off for a foul on an opponent near to goal, and although Moisés had a
goal disallowed at the other end, Bueno wrapped things up with a spectacular
shot into the top corner of the net in the last minute. (03.02.07)
Almería hold
on to third spot after a last minute 2-1 victory over second placed Real
Murcia on Sunday lunchtime. The first real chance didn't come until close
to half time, when Acasiete's effort was saved by Notario. But jusr a minute
after the restart the Peruvian defender got on the end of Corona's corner to
head his side in front. Lucas Alcaraz (serving out a one match ban in the
stands) ordered on Antoñito and Aranda, and within a few minutes Aranda
had taken advantage of a mistake by the defence to equalise. But with the game
already in the second minute of injury time, Soriano turned in Larrea's pass
for the winning goal.
Only two goals in the four
other matches on Sunday evening, with Numancia moving up to seventh
after a 1-0 win over Ponferradina. Bolo got the only goal in the seventh
minute after Julio Alvarez and Brit combined to set him up, but Dani Borreguero
and Baha came close to equalising before the break. After the restart though
the locals were on top, Alvarez bringing a couple of good saves from Rubio with
free kicks and Juan Carlos Moreno hitting the post, and the visitors ended with
ten men when Risso was sent off for elbowing an opponent.
A late goal by Capi helped
Lorca to a 0-1 victory at Sporting Gijón, taking the
Murcia based side to within two points of escaping the drop zone, and handing
the Asturians their fifth defeat in a row. It was a hard game, with local
striker Congo and then the visitors' new signing Thiaw both getting sent off
within the first half hour for violent conduct. Diego Castro and Barral both
wasted opportunities to put the Asturians ahead, but Capi headed Iván
Anía's free kick in off the post to take the three points.
0-0 draws in the other two
games, including the one between promotion hopefuls Salamanca and
Poli Ejido. Most (if not all) of the chances fell to the home side, with
Braulio and López Garai off target before the break, and Tena almost
turning a cross From David Fas into his own net in the dying minutes. However
they failed to score for the fourth weekend in a row, and have yet to win since
the turn of the year.
Castellón have
also not won in 2007, and they were held to a 0-0 draw by bottom club
Vecindario. It was a dull match, the only high spots being the
performances of the new signings, Oberman coming on at the break for the locals
and almost scoring, and Mirosavljevic and Carrizo (who headed the best chance
wide on the hour mark) shining for the Canary Islanders. (04.02.07)
