Zaragoza will be playing in the UEFA cup next season after holding on to sixth spot thanks to a 1-1 at Recreativo. Víctor Fernández's team had been in the European positions for most of the season, but for a long time they were out of the top six after they fell behind and Villarreal and Atlético Madrid both went ahead in their respective matches. With only three minutes on the clock Javi Guerrero opened the scoring for the locals, turning the ball back into the net after César had saved from Cazorla. And the visiting keeper had his work cut out to prevent the scoreline from increasing before the break.

Only Aimar had caused any problems for the local defence, and things got worse for Zaragoza when Piqué was sent off on the hour mark after holding back substitute Sinama-Pongolle as he advanced on goal. The French striker brought a good save out of César soon afterwards, but the visitors fought back valiantly, Diego Milito wasting a couple of good chances before controlling a long ball from Longás and driving a shot under Laquait for the equaliser. It was just what they wanted, and the point kept them level just above Atlético Madrid, thanks to a better head-to-head record.
