Sevilla just can't stop winning this season, and they followed up their epic UEFA cup final victory with a win over Deportivo which for a couple of hours at least took them to the top of the table. Starting before Real Madrid and Barcelona, the Andalusians knew that they could put the pressure on the leaders. And they had the better of the first half, Escudé and Javi Navarro both going close from consecutive corners and Chevantón wasting a good chance in front of Aouate.

Juan Rodríguez almost put the locals ahead when he shot just wide of the post soon after the restart, and substitute Luis Fabiano tested Aouate at the other end. With just under twenty minutes to go though it was Depor substitute Bodipo who broke the ice, his first time volley from Felipe's cross beating Palop and going in off the far post.

Sevilla reacted quickly though, Renato getting ahead of Aouate to head the equaliser from Duda's free kick just three minutes later. And soon afterwards Kanouté got the winner after Jesús Navas set him up after a long clearance from Palop. There was still time for Luis Fabiano to bring a good save out Aouate, and for Escudé to clear an effort from Sergio off the line. But Sevilla had another three points in the bag, and the bar for the leaders had been raised another notch.
