Real Sociedad moved to within a point of safety after a 3-1 win over fellow strugglers Celta. Both sides began the weekend level on points, and the visitors got off to a good start, Tamas heading against the post before Gustavo López put them in front, scoring straight from an inswinging corner which sailed over the head of Bravo. And Baiano should have added a second when he failed to beat the keeper close to the interval.

Real only had one effort from Ansotegi to their name in all the first half, but just twenty seconds after the restart Kovacevic nipped in between two defenders to head past the advancing Esteban and equalise. Four minutes later Savio turned in Garrido's cross, and the Basque side were ahead.

Baiano, Contreras and Nené all tried their luck at the other end for Hristo Stoichkov's team, but López Rekarte wrapped things up when he lobbed the ball back over Esteban's head after the keeper had come out of his area to head away a long ball out of midfield. Lotina's side were still in line for one of the most amazing recoveries in the history of the league, and Athletic Bilbao and Levante are now both within reach. The Galicians appear to be heading for the second division though after suffering their fifth defeat in a row.
