Fourth placed Valencia are back in the title race after they beat Zaragoza 2-0, and they are now only four points behind the joint leaders Real Madrid and Barcelona. Moretti opened the scoring for the Chés when he turned in David Silva's low drive in the twentieth minute. And they could have gone further ahead, first when Gabi Milito cleared off the line from Joaquín after David Villa's free kick was saved, and then when César saved a Villa penalty after Zapater fouled Silva.

Marchena had a long shot saved and Angulo headed over the bar, but two minutes before the break the locals did beat César for a second time, Miguel and Angulo combining for Villa to fire in a shot which the keeper could only push out as far as Silva, who had time to round him and stop before poking the ball across the line from a wide angle.

The visitors did better after the restart, with Diego Milito failing to convert a couple of easy chances, D'Alessandro and Juanfran shooting wide and Aimar at last testing Cañizares. But they were unable to break down a well ordered defence, and Silva and Joaquín could both have extended the lead later on. The defeat means that Zaragoza are now seven points adrift of their opponents in the table, and their chances of Champions League football next season have all but disappeared.
