Real Sociedad's fight to avoid the drop took a serious set-back after a 1-0 defeat at Getafe, only the second time they have lost in their last seven games. The early chances fell to the locals, Celestini shooting wide, Bravo saving from Güiza and Maris Verpakovskis missing an easy header close to half time. But Real had their chances, Pato Abbondanzieri having to save from Juanito and Herrera and López Rekarte swinging in a long ball which bounced off the crossbar.

Casquero, Maris and Güiza all went close as Getafe dominated the opening minutes of the second half, and with twenty minutes to go Alexis (now back in the side after being dropped last week) ran in to head Cotelo's corner past Bravo. The visitors tried to fight back, with Savio heading wide and then seeing another effort saved by Pato, but they could not break down what is proving to be one of the most solid defences in the league. Defeats for the teams around them though meant that the Basque side are still only three points away from safety.
