Sevilla beat Athletic Bilbao
4-1 on Sunday evening to move back above Real Madrid to second, just a point
now behind leaders Barcelona. After their cup win at Deportivo midweek the
Andalusians were in a confident mood, and within a few minutes Poulsen had a
headed goal disallowed for a previous foul and Luis Fabiano hit the post from
the penalty spot after Kerzhakov was fouled by Yeste.
Soon afterwards
Etxeberría hit the post at the other end, but Luis Fabiano had a shot
saved by Lafuente, who had come on midway through the half after Aranzubia was
injured, and a few minutes later Poulsen headed a free kick wide. And just
three minutes after the restart Sevilla took the lead when Kerzhakov picked up
Luis Fabiano's square pass to beat the visiting keeper.
That opened the floodgates,
and twenty minutes later the locals were three up, Luis Fabiano putting Puerta
through for him to catch Lafuente out from the widest of angles, and then
crossing in for Chevantón to half hit a shot over the keeper. Yeste
headed one back from Iraola's cross, but Luis Fabiano wrapped things up with a
fourth goal which leaves the Basque side just two points above the drop zone.
