A last minute own goal by
Fernando Navarro gave Barcelona a 1-0 victory over Mallorca, taking them four
points above second placed Sevilla. Frank Rijkaard's side were missing
Ronaldinho though, and although Márquez headed Deco's free kick against
the post early on, they could have gone behind midway through the first half
when Valdés gave away a penalty on Jonás Gutiérrez. The
keeper guessed correctly though and saved Gutiérrez's spot kick, and
then kept out an Arango free kick before the break.
Barça improved after
the restart, Messi bringing a good save out of Moyà and Puyol having a
clever back-heel flick blocked by the defence. With the clock running down
though Rijkaard eventually turned to Saviola, and he could have scored soon
after coming on had Moyà not saved at close range. Eto'o wasted a chance
soon afterwards and Ibagaza shot wide at the other end, but with a minute to go
Saviola's shot came back off the post and deflected back in to the net off the
knees of Fernando Navarro. A lucky win, but it could be worth a third title in
a row? |
