Steered header wide of Viera from Agüero's cross.
A controversial goal by
Eller gave sixth placed Atlético Madrid a 0-1 victory at Villarreal. The
defender headed past Viera on the half hour mark after Pablo headed on
Agüero's cross, but the local players thought that the visitors should
have put the ball out of play earlier as Guille Franco was lying injured in the
goalmouth. Referee Muñiz Fernández allowed the goal to stand
though, and Franco was fit enough afterwards to continue on to the break, when
he was replaced by José Marí.
Before the goal the best
chances were for the hosts, Josico flicking the ball just wide and Fuentes
failing to find the net from close up after Franco set him up. José
Marí missed a couple of opportunities after the restart, but the
Atlético defence held fast, and with five minutes to go they were
awarded a penalty after substitute Pires tripped Gabi in the area. The ex
Arsenal midfielder was shown a red card, but once again Fernando Torres's spot
kick was easily saved by the keeper. |
