Deportivo closed to within two points of ninth placed Getafe after beating Bernd Schuster's side 1-0. The visitors had the best chances early on though, with Nacho brushing the post and Alexis, Paredes and Güiza all going close. And they appeared to be on the way to a win when Arizmendi was sent off ten minutes before the break for elbowing Paredes.

Aouate saved from Güiza and Nacho headed over soon after the restart as Schuster threw on more attacking players. But Adrián missed a good chance to put the locals ahead, and with ten minutes to go Barragán got was to prove the only goal of the night with a long shot from right of midfield which Abbondanzieri misjudged.

Even so Pachón should have equalised when he fired a shot way over the bar with only the keeper to beat late on, but Getafe had fallen to a fifth game in a row without a win, and they move further away from the European spots.
