The derby game between
Atlético Madrid and Real Madrid ended in a 1-1 draw, a result which
keeps Capello's side in the top four. A victory would have taken the locals
above their rivals, and they started well, with Fernando Torres picking up a
cross from Galletti to beat Iker Casillas with just over ten minutes gone. And
just four minutes later they should have been further ahead when Perea turned
the ball in to the net after Antonio López's free kick came back off the
post. However referee Daudén Ibáñez ruled out the strike
for a non existent offside, and also waved away appeals for a penalty by
Emerson on Agüero in the same play.
After that it was all
Atleti, with Casillas in particular making a first class save from Galletti.
The visitors didn't trouble Leo Franco until shortly before the break when
Cannavaro got free but shot straight at the keeper, and at half time Capello
decided to bring on Cassano, now back in favour after several weeks on the
sidelines. The Italian forward didn't take long to make his mark, slipping the
ball through to Higuaín for him to score his first goal since joining
the club. But Casillas was once again the saviour, keeping out a Mista header
and another shot from Agüero near the end, by which time Madrid were
playing with ten men after Cannavaro picked up a second booking. A point saved
for them, and Atlético will be ruing their misses. |
