Ran on to Mati Fernández pass and lifted shot over Casillas.
Playing on Saturday, Real
Madrid started their game at Villarreal needing a win to take them to the top
of the table. However it was another disappointing evening for them, a 1-0
defeat meaning they stay in third spot. Both sides had chances early on, in
particular Marcos García bringing a good save out of Casillas and
Robinho shooting over the top. But the best chances of the first half fell to
the home side on the half hour mark, Casillas keeping out Forlán and
Cani, and then reacting quick enough to force Mati Fernández to shoot
wide.
Higuaín and Sergio
Ramos finally gave Viera some work to do either side of half time, but
Villarreal continued to dominate, and midway through the second half a passing
move between Forlán and Fernández ended with Marcos García
running through to beat Casillas and open the scoring. Capello's side, who have
only scored three times in their last seven games, had no reply, and the locals
went on comfortably to their first win in four games. More importantly for the
fans though, it was the first time in their history that they have beaten Real
Madrid after fifteen previous attempts. |
