Atlético Madrid
returned to fourth spot after beating city neighbours Getafe 1-0 in the last
match on Sunday evening. Javier Aguirre's side had never taken the lead in the
Vicente Calderón stadium this season, and it looked like history was
about to repeat itself when ex Atlético striker Manu Del Moral brought a
spectacular save out of Leo Franco. But Maniche put the local fans at ease with
the opening goal midway through the first half, heading a Fernando Torres cross
past Pato Abbondanzieri.
Güiza tested Leo Franco
soon afterwards, and Agüero kept Pato on his toes at the other end before
the break. The second half started with Torres cutting in to the area and
shooting straight at the visiting keeper, who also kept out Agüero later
on. And the last chance of the match fell to Manu, who's shot went just wide of
the post. An important win though for Atlético, who move five points
clear of their opponents in the table. |
