Atlético Madrid drop
out of the Champions League spots after losing 1-2 at home to an improving
Espanyol. Tamudo put the Catalans ahead in only the seventh minute after De la
Peña and Luis García combined to set him up, but Maniche and
Agüero both went close at the other end before the break, and Fernando
Torres powered in to head home the equaliser after the ball ballooned up into
the air ten minutes after the restart.
Kameni had to be at his best
soon afterwards to push out a wide shot from Galletti, but almost immediately
Espanyol were awarded a free kick just outside of the area and Luis
García curled a shot into the top corner of the net. Mista got the ball
into the net near the end, but the strike was ruled out for a previous foul on
the keeper. Atlético's good work in recent weeks had come to nothing,
and Espanyol's unbeaten run now extends to nine games. |
