Last week's leaders Sevilla were held to a 0-0 draw at Racing Santander, the first time the Andalusians have shared the points this season. Miguel Angel Portgual's side had gone six games without defeat, and despite putting out a side depleted by suspensions they dominated the match. With twelve minutes on the clock Zigic could have given them the lead if he had realized he was not offside, collecting a long Munitis free kick but hesitating too long and allowing Palop to block his shot. The ball fell to Scaloni, but he too was closed down by Escudé. Zigic and Munitis both went close after that, and the visitors hardly troubled Toño through out the first half.

Sevilla felt that they should have had a penalty when Rubén appeared to foul Luis Fabiano immediately after the restart, but otherwise Racing continued to push forward, Javi Navarro stopping an effort from Oscar Serrano with Palop beaten, and the keeper making a first class save from Munitis. The visitors could have won it though in the final minutes when Kanouté scuffed his kick with only the keeper to beat, but that would have been too much.
