Atlético Madrid move
up in to the top six after coming from behind to beat Villarreal 3-1. The
visitors started well, Marcos Senna bringing a good save out of Leo Franco in
the opening minutes. And they took the lead with less than a quarter of an hour
on the clock when Fuentes headed Riquelme's free kick past the keeper.
Both sides had a goal
disallowed soon afterwards, Somoza for a borderline offside and Maniche for
controlling the ball with his hand, and Barbosa saved twice from Agüero
(who at last was in the starting line up) and Galletti. But ten minutes before
the break Ze Castro headed Pernía's free kick on past Barbosa to level
the scores, and on the stroke of half time Fernando Torres was brought down in
the box by Cygan and converted the resulting penalty to put his side ahead.
Torres picked up an injury
in the incident and had to be substituted by Jurado, but the youngster made his
own contribution, setting up Agüero for him to clip a shot past the keeper
and in to the net. A few minutes later the visitors were left with ten men when
José Marí was sent off for a hard tackle on Seitaridis, and the
match was over. Atlético's three match goal drought had come to an end.
