Valencia drop to third after
losing 1-0 to Racing Santander, the Cantabrian side's first win at home all
season. It was a dull first half, with fog closing in on the ground making
visibility difficult, and the only real shot at goal for either side was an
effort from Morientes which Toño managed to beat away. The visitors
suffered another injury blow, Gavilán joining the growing list with a
knee problem following a tackle by Rubén, and Regueiro came on to
applause from his old fans.
In the end though it was
Racing's "Little and Large" act, Munitis and Zigic, who did the damage, the ex
Real Madrid and Depor forward getting in front of the defence to head the
Serbian's headed pass past Cañizares ten minutes in to the second half.
Zigic had already had a penalty appeal turned down, and the two continued to
cause problems throughout the second half. Valencia's only reply was a shot
into the side netting by Regueiro, but even he had to call it a day after
getting himself sent off for a second bookable offence in the last minute. A
bad result for Quique Flores, and Racing breath a sigh of relief.
