Zaragoza move up to the
Champions League spots after a 2-1 victory over Betis on Saturday evening.
After a first chance for the visitors, with Wagner shooting in to the side
netting, Víctor Fernández's side opened the scoring when Diego
Milito beat Doblas after Sergio had headed a free kick up into the air and Gabi
Milito had touched it on. Aimar wasted a chance to make it two soon afterwards,
but made up for it with a brilliant run down the right which ended with him
slipping the ball through for Milito to get his second of the night. It was the
striker's seventh of the season, and takes him, provisionally at least, to the
top of the Pichichi table.
Sergio García could
have made it three had Doblas not saved his shot after D'Alessandro put him
through, and Betis's problems increased after referee Rodríguez Santiago
sent off Edu two minutes before the break after catching Juanfran with a flying
elbow. Aimar had to go off at the break though with an injury, and after that
Zaragoza's creative ideas dried up. Irureta brought on Capi and Vogel at half
time, and seven minutes after the restart Robert got one back with an
individualist strike from Robert, who left Diogo and Sergio for dead before
curling a shot in to the far top corner of the net. After that though the
locals shut up shop, and although Robert did his best there was no way through.
The defeat leaves the Andalusians further down in the drop zone.
