Goals: 1-0. 76. Maxi
López. Turned ball past Kameni after Jankovic played in corner.
Mallorca moved clear of the
danger zone with a 1-0 victory over Espanyol. Gregorio Manzano's side started
the weekend just above the bottom three, and the coach opted to play
Víctor up front and leave Maxi López and new signing Diego
Tristán on the bench. But they were unable to carve out many chances in
a dull first half, Kameni only being tested once by Jonás
Gutiérrez, and Arango shooting wide.
Kameni was in action early
in the second half to keep out Víctor, and Riera (the only visiting
player to have a shot at goal in the first half) had a penalty appeal turned
down at the other end. Manzano finally brought on all his fire power, and with
a quarter of an hour to go Maxi López finally got the goal they were
looking for, turning the ball in from close up after Jankovic played on a
corner.
A couple of minutes later
Riera was sent off for a second bookable offence, and Arango came close to
increasing the lead with a shot which Kameni beat out at close range. Espanyol
almost saved a point in the end though following a corner, Prats just getting a
hand to Coro's header on the line to keep the ball out of the net.
