Sevilla held on to top spot after an exciting 3-2 victory over city rivals Betis. The visitors were not to be daunted and started well, although the first chance fell to Kepa who headed over the bar. And midway through the first half Kanouté latched on to a loose ball after Kepa failed to control a long pass to lob Doblas and put Juande Ramos's side ahead.

However two opportunist strikes from Sobis either side of half time turned the scoreline around, the first after intercepting a bad back pass from David and the second after Maldonado's effort was blocked. But just four minutes later Kanouté stooped down past his marker to head home a Jesús Navas cross to level the scores once again.

After that things quietened down, and it looked as if both sides had settled for a point. Juanito did go close with a header, but with five minutes to go Renato picked up a ball on the left of the area, and after cutting back past a defender from the by-line he crashed a shot in to the roof of the net. With the win in Greece midweek this was their twelfth victory in a row, and Sevilla are on fire.
