Sevilla rounded off the extended opening weekend of the league with a 4-0 win over Levante which takes them right to the top of the table, a match which could not be televised due to a dispute between the club and the television companies. The Andalusians were full of confidence after beating Barcelona in the European Supercup on Friday, and Kanouté put them ahead in only the eighth minute with an angled shot after a mistake by Alvaro.

Kepa had had a goal disallowed for offside in the third minute, but he made no mistake adding the second after Jesús Navas and Daniel Alves combined down the right wing to set him up. And the locals kept control for the rest of the first half, even though Camacho and Carmelo did try their best to beat Palop before the break.

Kanouté brought a good save out of Cavallero in the opening minutes of the second half, but the keeper was at fault a couple of minutes later when he failed to cut out another cross from Alves, allowing Kepa to score his second of the night. And with the visitors down to ten men after Courtois picked up a second yellow card, the Spanish under 21 striker completed a hat-trick after Kanouté's shot was blocked to stake a serious claim for a place in the side.
