Eibar beat
L'Hospitalet 2-0 in the second leg of their semi-final and will play the
winners of the game between Rayo Vallecano and Portuense in the group D final.
It was a controversial game, the referee awarding the first goal to the locals
midway through the second half when Codina's shot bounced down off the bar,
even though cameras showed the ball didn't cross the line. Rebollo picked up a
rebound to score a second though near the end to put the game beyond the reach
of the Catalans. (09.06.07)
The play-off finals are now
all confirmed after Sunday's games. In group A, Sevilla Atlético
are through after overturning a 1-0 first leg defeat, beating Universidad
Las Palmas 4-0. Youth international Diego Capel was the star of the match,
setting up the first for Juan Pablo and scoring the second himself on the
stroke of half time, and Pablo Sánchez added two more later on in the
second half. The Sevilla B side will play Burgos, who won through 5-4 on
a penalty shoot out after drawing 0-0 with Alcoyano. The
Castilla-León based side couldn't convert any of their many chances,
even after Baixauli was sent off for the visitors after the break, but keeper
Iván Gómez saved Garrido's spot kick at the sudden death stage to
take them through.
Córdoba
qualified for the group B final on the away goal rule after coming from two
down to draw 2-2 at Pontevedra. Dani put through his own net from an
early corner, and when Víctor got a second for the Galicians with only a
quarter of an hour gone it looked to be all over. But Asen headed in two goals
before the break to the great delight to the 500 or so fans who had made the
long journey from Andalusia. Their opponents will be Huesca after the
Aragón based club beat Palencia 2-1. Two goals in four minutes
midway through the first half from Valdés and Rangel put the home side
well ahead, but a headed goal from Koeman on the stroke of half time put the
result in doubt right up to the final whistle.
A penalty shoot out as well
at Linares, where the locals lost 3-4 on spot kicks to Racing Ferrol
after a 2-0 win had cancelled out the first leg result. Goals from Dani
Bouzas and Postigo in the last half hour took the game into extra time and then
penalties, but Cidoncha fired the last spot kick against the post to keep the
Galicians on track for a quick return to the second division. Their group C
final will be against Alicante, who beat Real Unión 2-0 in
extra time. The East coast side levelled the tie when Borja forced Berruet to
put through his own net shortly before the interval, and Eloi picked up an
assist from Calderón to score the winner with seven minutes of extra
time remaining.
Finally Rayo Vallecano
will be the rivals of Eibar in the group D final after a nail biting 2-2
draw with newly promoted Portuense. Pepe Mel's side only made sure of
going through with an injury time strike from Diego Torres, despite the two
goal advantage from the first leg. Piti (on loan from Hércules) opened
the scoring for the hosts after Benítez set him up, but two goals from
Zuñiga either side of half time took the Andalusians to within a goal of
turning the tie around.
The two remaining relegation
spots were also confirmed today. The Valencia B side Valencia Mestalla
will be one of the teams relegated to the regional third division after
they could only draw 1-1 with Valladolid B, Guerra's early goal being
cancelled out by Jordi at the start of the second half. And ex first division
side Extremadura will be joining them after they too could only draw 1-1
with Pájara Playas Jandía. Changui's opening goal gave
them a slight hope of overturning the 3-0 first leg scoreline, but the Canary
Islanders equalised through Adrián late on. (10.06.07) |
