Levante moved back
into the top three after a 0-1 win against promotion rivals Xerez on
Saturday evening. Both sides had chances in the opening minutes, Geijo bringing
a good save out of visiting keeper Cavallero and Camuñas putting a
couple of efforts wide, and Descarga and Carmelo going close with long shots at
the other end. Lucas Alcaraz's side should have gone ahead when they were
awarded a penalty after Descarga handled in the area with twenty minutes on the
clock, but Cavallero saved Geijo's spot kick. Levante were the better side
after the break though Ettien bringing a good save out of Tete and putting
another effort wide before Ian Harted struck the winner with a long free kick.
Ciudad Murcia's run
of five wins in a row came to an end after a surprise 0-2 defeat at home to
bottom club Eibar. The home side had an early strike by Goitom ruled out
for what the referee considered was a previous foul, and the visitors took the
lead in their first attack when Azkoitia chipped keeper Jaime after Cristian
Díaz gifted him the ball. Kome and Goitom missed easy chances to
equalise either side of half time, and the Basque side went further ahead when
Jaime turned a cross from Iñigo in to his own net. Luque then missed a
penalty after Mayrata was sent off for a foul on Goitom, and despite having a
man less the visitors could well have scored again later on.
Eibar's first win in
fourteen games takes them off the foot of the table, ahead of Málaga
B on goal difference after the South coast side drew 1-1 with
Albacete. Lobo Carrasco's side found themselves behind in the tenth
minute when Corona picked up a cross from Aranda to beat Nauzet, and
Rubén had to clear another effort off the line a couple of minutes
later. The hosts came back though, Boselli wasting a chance to equalise when
his penalty kick was saved by Sanzol, but five minutes after the restart Abel
did level the scores with a free kick from the edge of the area. Albacete were
left with ten men a few minutes later when Santi was sent off for a foul on
Perico, and Perico himself could have won it for the hosts when his header was
saved by Sanzol in injury time.
Ciudad Murcia's neighbours
Real Murcia also had a disappointing result, losing 1-0 at Real
Madrid Castilla thanks to a last minute goal from Adrián
Martín. The youngsters could have taken the lead in the first minute, an
inspired Jurado setting up Javi García for a first crack at goal, and
Valero hit the bar a few minutes later. Iván Alonso tested Codina at the
other end though and Acciari headed against the bar, but De la Red brought the
best save of the night out of Juanmi on the stroke of half time. Javi
García rattled the woodwork again in the second half, but the game
appeared to be heading for a draw before Adrián beat the keeper in the
dying minutes to give his side a win which virtually ensures another season in
the second division. (22.04.06)
Recreativo Huelva
moved back to the top of the second division after beating last week's
leaders Gimnastic Tarragona 3-0 on Sunday lunchtime. Luis César's
side had not lost away from home in eleven games, but they went behind when
Uche beat Rubén Pérez in the ninth minute. Calle made it two with
a shot on the turn with just under half an hour gone, and Nàstic missed
a chance to pull one back when Toño saved a Diego Torres penalty after
Bouzón fouled Bolo in the area. Before the interval the Catalans were
left with ten men when Oscar Alvarez picked up a second booking, and just five
minutes after the restart the Andalusians went further ahead when David
García put through his own net. Numbers were evened up later in the half
when Valencia was also sent off, but by then it was all over and Recre move
above their opponents thanks to a better goal difference. (23.04.06)
