Recreativo and Valladolid
both failed to take advantage of early kick-offs, and ended the day still
outside of the top three spots after drawing their respective matches.
Recreativo took the lead twice against Poli Ejido, but both times
the visitors equalised and the game ended 2-2. Recre had won their last three
home fixtures and looked to be on their way to a fourth when Uche picked up a
pass from Viqueira to put his side ahead in the eleventh minute. Visiting
keeper Bello Amigo did well to save a dangerous Viqueira free kick soon
afterwards, but before half time Poli were level when Toedtli beat Luque with a
free kick at the other end. Bello Amigo had to keep out Xavi Jiménez and
Rosu before Uche restored the lead twenty minutes from the end, but local
keeper Luque let a long shot from Keko through his hands a quarter of an hour
later, and Toedtli almost won it for the visitors when he hit the bar in the
dying minutes.
Valladolid were
unable to do more than draw 0-0 at bottom club Castellón, a
result which saved the head of local manager Martín Delgado for the time
being. There was little action in a dull first half, visiting keeper Bizzarri
having no problem dealing with efforts from Miguel and Epitié. Marcos
Alonso's side did not have a shot at goal in the first 45 minutes, although
Tote and Aduriz both tested Raúl Jiménez after the restart.
Bizzarri saved well from Héctor at the other end, but the only other
action was the sending off of Aduriz late on for a second bookable offence.
Levante also drew 0-0
at Málaga B and they too failed to return to the promotion spots,
ending the day two points off the top three. Again chances were few and far
between Courtois firing an early shot over the bar for the visitors and Abel
and Saúl both having efforts cleared by Cavallero and then Descarga for
the home side. Both managers changed their sides around in the second half, but
apart from efforts off target by Camacho and Andreu there was not a lot to
excite the crowd. Málaga B ended the day in the bottom four as a result.
Elche though move
above Levante to sixth after beating Albacete 1-2. The home side had
been unbeaten for five games after their bad start to the season, but they were
pegged back right from the start and Nino and Frankowski both went close early
on. Pacheco and Parri both failed to find the target at the other end from free
kicks, and five minutes before the interval Nino gave Elche the lead after good
work by Alfredo. Frankowski made it two after the restart on a rapid
counter-attack, and the locals were unable to reply until the second minute of
injury time, when substitute Gato got on the end of Bermejo's cross to score a
late consolation.
Curiously there were no home
wins in any of the eight games played on Saturday in the top two flights.
Racing Ferrol moved out of the relegation spots after beating
Gimnastic Tarragona 1-2, and the Galicians are now only a point behind
their opponents in the table. Juan Carlos gave them the lead midway through the
first half after Granon set him up, and Granon could have made it two before
the break when he shot just wide. The French midfielder did get his name on the
scoresheet after the break though, and although Abel Buades pulled one back
soon afterwards, the Catalans were not able to prevent their third defeat in
four games. (15.10.05)
Xerez increased their
lead at the top of the table after coming from behind to beat second placed
Tenerife 3-1. The Andalusians started strongly, and Geijo crashed a shot
against the bar early in the first half. But the visitors took the lead against
the run of play with a Fagiani penalty after Julio Iglesias fouled Ayoze in the
area. The locals kept up the pressure though, and shortly after García
Granero put a chance over the top, Dani Pendín equalised after Pedro
Ríos set him up. Three minutes in to the second half the home side went
ahead when Camuñas headed home David's cross, and Geijo wrapped things
up a few minutes later after good work by García Granero. Xerez move
four points clear of their rivals, who should still be in the promotion spots
by the end of the weekend after their closest rivals failed to win the day
before.
Later on Sunday evening,
Real Murcia moved up to second after beating struggling Lleida
2-0, their seventh game in a row without defeat. The South East coast side took
the lead in the twentieth minute with a Samuel penalty after Pelegri had fouled
Iván Alonso, but despite dominating from there on, Jacobo and Sergio
Rodríguez both came close to scoring either side of half time.
Rodríguez was sent off for a second bookable offence a few minutes after
the restart though, and substitute Richi made it two for Murcia with a shot
which deflected in to the net off a defender. It was a fourth defeat in a row
for the Catalans, who ended the weekend in the relegation spots as a result.
Hércules are
up to fifth, just a point outside the top three after a 2-1 win over Ciudad
Murcia. The visitors were looking to bounce back after their 2-6 defeat
against Xerez the week before, and Mané and Rivero both created work for
Moso early on. But five minutes before the break the Alicante based side took
the lead when Raúl Pérez turned Cámara's corner in to his
own net. Moisés added a second from the penalty spot after Angel handled
in the area, and although amaya got one back, again with a penalty after Castro
brought down Mané, the result never looked in doubt.
Lorca are a point
behind Hércules after a 1-2 win at Castilla, a result which was
still just good enough to take the Real Madrid B team out of the relegation
spots above Lleida. The youngsters were outplayed by their visitors in the
first half, and only a weak effort from Adrián Martín caused any
problems for Jauregui. Rubén had to clear an effort from Isaac off the
line shortly before the break, and just four minutes in to the second half
Gorka De Carlos took advantage of a hesitant defence to beat Codina and put
Lorca ahead. Within three minutes De Carlos outstripped Angelo to make it two,
and they held on until the first minute of injury time, when Soldado got a late
consolation goal for the hosts after picking up a pass from Felipe.
Numancia climbed away
from the danger zone with a 1-0 win over Sporting Gijón, the
Soria based side's first win in six games. The match didn't wake up until just
before half time, when Miguel went close for the locals with a header. Pablo
Alvarez replied for the Asturians almost immediately after the restart with
another header which Nuñez did well to keep out, but otherwise the home
side were on top and they were unfortunate not to be awarded a penalty when
Jorge handled in the area. The game appeared to be heading for a draw though
until a shot from Pablo Niño came back off a defender and Jordi Navas
followed up to drive the ball past Roberto.
Struggling Eibar held
on to get a valuable 1-1 draw at Almería, the first points that
the locals have dropped at home all season. Francisco put visiting keeper
Etxeberría to the test early on, and the Andalusians took the lead with
just under half an hour gone when Michel converted a penalty after Markel
handled in the area. But Iñigo and Azkoitia both went close as the
Basque fought back, and three minutes before the break Azkoitia levelled the
scores following a corner. The home side tried their best in the second half,
Soriano shooting wide and Ortíz bringing another good save out of the
keeper, but they were unable to add to their score. (16.10.05)
