Xerez moved up to
second in the table after beating Lleida 0-1 on Saturday evening thanks
to a fortunate goal in the last minute of the match. The Andalusians played
over three quarters of the game with ten men after Selu was shown the red card
for a foul on Santos in the twentieth minute. But the locals were unable to
take advantage, and only a couple of efforts from Bilic and Oscar Rubio caused
any problems for the visiting defence in the first half. Colorado almost put
Xerez ahead when his long shot was turned on to the post by Edu before the
break, but otherwise they sat back to defend. Julio Iglesias kept out a couple
of late efforts from Nakor and Bilic, but the game appeared to be heading for a
draw when Alex Fernández's free kick was deflected by Bruno, and Pedro
Ríos instinctively stuck out his head to touch the rebound over the
keeper and in to the net.
Hércules are
up to fifth spot after a 4-0 win over Numancia. The turning point of the
game came around the half hour mark when visiting keeper Juanma was sent off
for a second bookable offence after giving away a penalty on Palacios.
Moisés tucked away the spot kick, but his side were unable to add a
second goal until midway through the second half, when Quique Mateo beat
replacement keeper Juan Pablo with a shot from outside of the area. After that
Numancia's resistance crumbled and the locals scored twice more, Dani
Borreguero getting the first after a deflection off a defender, and Otxoa
turning an effort from Toché into his own net soon afterwards.
Racing Ferrol climbed
out of the relegation zone with a 2-1 victory over Elche, the Galician
side's first win of the season. Both keepers were in action in the first half,
Bouchard keeping out Elche's Rubén Suárez and Unanua doing
likewise a few minutes later from Juan Carlos. The first goal though didn't
come until after the restart, Cobas heading the home side into the lead from
Juanito's cross. Nino equalised from the penalty spot after Raúl
Martín was fouled, but after the visitors were reduced to ten men when
Pedro Martí was shown a second yellow card, Juanito took advantage to
pick up a pass from Baha and strike home the winner.
Eibar also recorded
their first win of the season, beating Recreativo Huelva 1-0 in the
fourth match on Saturday evening. With his side starting the weekend in the
relegation spots, local coach Carlos Terrazas made several changes to his line
up. And it was one of the new men Azkoitia who opened the scoring in the
twelfth minute with a volley after Iñigo headed back Solabarrieta's
cross. A quarter of an hour later Recre were level when Uche got between two
defenders to head Aitor's cross past Etxeberría, but Azkoitia popped
upon again with ten minutes to go to get his second of the evening after
Jaime's cross was only partly cleared by the defence. (24.09.05)
Last week's leaders
Levante dropped to second after they were held to a 1-1 draw by
Albacete on Sunday lunchtime. The visitors got off to a strong start,
Aranda testing Cavallero early on. But the hosts fought their way back, and
Riga and Reggi both failed to take chances before the break. N'Diaye gave them
the lead though with a spectacular shot which left Sanzol stranded after the
restart, and Courtois and Reggi both could have extended the lead with a bit
more luck. But midway through the second half David Bauzá picked up a
headed pass from Aranda to equalise, and after that César Ferrando's
side closed ranks to defend the point. (25.09.05)
Tenerife are the new
leaders in the second division after beating Almería 2-1 for
their third win in a row. Toñito headed the Canary Islanders in front
from Maikel's cross in the eleventh minute, but Michel and Francisco shot just
wide and Keleman had to save from Soriano as the visitors pushed for an
equaliser. Two minutes after the restart Francisco found Crusat for him to
round the keeper and get the goal Almería were looking for, and they
could have gone ahead when Acasiete headed a corner against the bar soon
afterwards. Valerio had to be at his best though to keep out Jesús, and
the home side eventually restored the lead when substitute Cristo Marrero
picked up a pass from Toñito to score. The sending off of César
Belli near the end though left them a man short, and Acasiete wasted a chance
to save a point when he shot wide with the goal at his mercy in the last
minute.
Real Murcia moved up
to third spot after a 0-3 win at Poli Ejido, who dropped their first
points at their Santa Domingo stadium after winning their opening two home
games. The locals had the better of the first half but didn't take their
chances, Pedro Vega, Keko and Calado all failing to find the net. And with just
under an hour on the clock substitute Pablo Sierra took advantage of a
defensive mistake to open the scoring for the visitors. Carrera headed a second
from Richi 's centre ten minutes later, and Richi himself made it three when he
got on the end of Sierra's cross.
The only other side to win
were newly promoted Lorca, who beat Gimnastic Tarragona 1-0
thanks to a strike from ex Fulham and Celta forward Sava. The Murcia based side
were on top right from the start, and Bea, Sava and Xavi Moro all went close
before Sava got on the end of Moro's cross to head into the top corner of the
net. The Catalans only troubled the local defence with a shot over the top from
Abel Buades, and visiting keeper Valencia had to be at his best to stop the
home side from winning by a bigger margin.
Valladolid lost
ground on the leaders after throwing away a one goal lead to draw 1-1 with
Málaga B. Marcos Alonso's side couldn't get into gear in the
first half despite having most of the play, and their only real chance came
from a Marcos shot against the post. The introduction of Tote in the second
half improved things, and Capdevila finally put the hosts ahead just a couple
of minutes after he came on. But with seven minutes to go a deflected Castro
free kick fell kindly for González-Vigil to equalise, and the locals'
frustration was evidenced when Aduriz was sent off in injury time.
Sporting Gijón
also drew 1-1 with Real Madrid Castilla, Biagini saving a point for
the Asturians just three minutes from the end. Although the Asturians had the
better of the first half the best chances fell to the visitors, Soldado testing
Roberto a couple of times. Codina was in action at the other end as well
though, keeping out an effort from Juan shortly before the break. Madrid took
the lead near the end when substitute Valero picked up a pass from Jurado to
beat the keeper just a couple of minutes after coming on, but Biagini, also a
late substitute, took advantage of a hesitant defence to save the day.
Elsewhere Ciudad
Murcia were held to a 0-0 result by Castellón, who stay
bottom of the table despite picking up their first point of the season. The
newly promoted side's coach Martín Delgado was under pressure to produce
a result, and made several changes to his line up. And his team had the better
of the first half, even though neither side really threatened the opposing
keeper. The visitors were left with ten men when Zamora was shown a second
yellow card midway through the second half, but Goitom in particular missed a
couple of opportunities to take advantage, and in the end the points were
shared. (25.09.05) |
