Ciudad Murcia's stay
at the top of the table was short lived as the recently formed side fell to a
1-0 defeat at Almería. Abel Resino's team packed the defence
right from the start, and only a shot from local striker Michel troubled
José Juan in the first half. However eight minutes after the restart
Soriano scored what was to be the only goal of the match after picking up a
cross from Ortiz and firing a deflected shot past the keeper. The game opened
up after that, but neither side were able to find the net. The result left
Levante in first position before they had even played their match.
Tenerife moved up
into the top three, level with Ciudad on points, after coming from behind in
the Bernabeu stadium to beat Real Madrid Castilla 1-2. The youngsters
took the lead on the quarter hour mark when Soldado headed a cross from the
excellent Balboa past Keleman, and the keeper did well to save from Luis Felipe
soon afterwards. But the Canary Islanders more physical play paid off, and Toni
Moral levelled the scores with an angled shot before the break. With half an
hour to go Maikel got on the end of Toñito's pass to head a second goal,
and they held on despite ending with ten men when Kirian was sent off for a
second bookable offence in the final minutes.
The win takes Tenerife above
a Sporting Gijón side who lost 1-0 at Málaga B, the
Asturians first defeat of the season and their opponents first victory. Keepers
Javi Muñoz and Manu were the stars of the first half, both performing
well as the two sides created several chances. The home side were having the
better of it though, and they came close to scoring after the restart when
Michel turned Andreu's shot against his own crossbar. And a few minutes later
Usero got on the end of Calderón's corner to score the winner.
Elsewhere two of the newly
promoted sides met, Hércules running out 1-2 winners at
Castellón to leave their hosts firmly anchored at the bottom of
the table. Moisés gave the Alicante based lead from the penalty spot in
the tenth minute after Zamora had handled in the area, but the locals equalised
on the hour mark, also with a penalty from Ordoñéz after the
referee ruled that Héctor was fouled. Juan Carlos Mandía
eventually turned to on loan Atlético Madrid striker Toché
though, and less than a minute of coming on he got on the end of Palacios's
pass to beat Javi Fernández. The crowd called for the head of local
manager Martín Delgado after the final whistle. (17.09.05)
Recreativo beat
Valladolid 2-0 on Sunday lunchtime to move up to sixth in the table. The
Andalusians were on top for most of the match, and took the lead when Rosu
picked up Viqueira's pass to beat Lledó with half an hour on the clock.
Both sides were left with ten men when first Curbelo and then Cheli were sent
off after picking up second yellow cards, but the locals continued to dominate
and finally got the second goal they were looking for when Xavi Jiménez
set up Uche near the end. (18.09.05)
Levante moved a point
clear at the top of the table after a 0-0 draw at Real Murcia in the
last game of the weekend, and with only four games gone they are the only
unbeaten side in the second division. The Valencia based team dominated their
opponents in the first half, with Ian Harte hitting the post on the half hour
mark. And although the locals came back with a couple of dangerous free kicks
from Juio Alvarez, Reggi could have won it for the visitors had he been able to
find the target near the end.
Seven sides are tied for
fourth place behind Ciudad and Tenerife, including Lleida, who also drew
0-0 at Racing Ferrol. The locals lined up with a five man defence at the
start, but it was the Catalans who came closest to scoring, Bilic heading the
best chance just over the bar. The Galicians were more adventurous after the
restart, but visiting substitute Nakor wasted a couple of chances to give his
side the lead before the hosts had their one and only real chance at goal,
Eduardo doing well to save from Baha in the closing minutes.
Numancia and
Xerez are also both on seven points after cancelling each other out in a
1-1 draw. The two sides got off to a lively start, Camuñas for the
visitors and Palacios for the locals both shooting wide when free in front of
goal. Geijo latched on to a loose ball to put the Andalusians ahead soon after
the restart, but Palacios headed the equaliser from Tevenet's cross on the hour
mark. And the Soria based side were unlucky not to take the three points after
Miguel had a penalty appeal turned down soon afterwards.
After the last three weeks
of high scoring, things are back to normal, with only sixteen goals in the
eleven games. Only four sides managed more than one goal, including
Elche who beat Poli Ejido 2-0. They were up against though
throughout the first half, and could have been behind when Moreno hit the post
just a couple of minutes after the restart. But soon afterwards Poli were left
with ten men when Cristian picked up a second booking, and Frankowski came on
to beat the offside trap and open the scoring twenty minutes from the end. Luis
Gil added a second later on after Raúl Martín's effort was
blocked to take Uribe's side up into the top half of the table.
A second half Pacheco
penalty helped Albacete to a 1-0 win over Lorca, taking the
Mancgegans out of the relegation spots. The locals were on top from the first
minute when Aranda missed an easy chance, and Mingo hit the post later in the
first half. But they couldn't break down a well organised defence until ten
minutes after the break, when Pacheco beat Jauregi from the penalty spot after
Aranda had been fouled. After that they sat back to defend their first victory
of the season, although Sanzol had to be at his best to keep out an Alves free
kick at the end.
A 1-1 scoreline as well in
Tarragona, where Nàstic beat Eibar to move away from the
danger zone and leave the Basque side in next to bottom spot. Ismael got the
only goal after picking up a pass from Bolo midway through the first half, but
the Catalans were lucky to hold on in the end, Iñigo hitting the
crossbar and Valencia having to make a string of fine saves. The frustration
got too much for the visitors though, and Alaña was sent off in injury
time for a second bookable offence. (18.09.05) |
