Numancia and Levante top the
table pending Sunday's games after taking the maximum six points from their
first two games. Numancia followed up their 3-0 victory from the week
before with a 0-1 win at Castellón. Last season there were two
divisions between these two sides, but the locals applied the early pressure
and Héctor and Jonan García both could have scored had they found
the target. The visitors came close themselves when Jordi Navas headed Del
Pino's corner against the bar, but Graff had to scramble an effort from Pardo
off the line soon after the restart. The winner came though twenty minutes from
the end when Navas beat Javi Fernández with a header from another
corner, this time taken by Tevenet, and they held on to leave the newly
promoted club without a point from their first two games.
Levante also got off
to a best possible start after beating Racing Ferrol 1-2, despite ending
the game with nine men. Mustapha Riga took advantage of slack defending to put
the Valencia based side in front on the half hour mark, and although Juan
Carlos equalised with a quickly taken free kick, Courtois restored the lead
before the break after good work by Reggi. Courtois got himself sent off though
immediately after the restart for a second bookable offence, and Camacho
followed him down the tunnel with a quarter of an hour remaining for a bad
tackle on an opponent. Even so the visitors held on, with Cavallero in
particular making first class saves from Juanito, Jaime and Arrieta to ensure
the three points.
Recreativo Huelva
beat Tenerife 3-1, a hat-trick from Rosu helping them to their first win
of the season. The Romanian forward almost left the club in the summer, but the
locals must be thankful that he didn't when he scored twice in a minute in the
first half, the first a header from Viqueira's free kick and the second a
deflection from Aitor's wayward shot. The locals could have scored one or two
more before the break as they dominated the game, but Tenerife gathered
themselves together in the second half and Cristo Marrero pulled one back with
an individualist goal. Rosu completed his hat-trick three minutes later though
from Juvenal's pass, and Juvenal himself almost made it four when he hit the
bar with a late free kick. . (03.09.05)
Sporting Gijón
took over top spot in the table after a resounding 0-4 win over
Gimnastic Tarragona. Ciriaco Cano's young side caught their opponents
out in the first minute when a long clearance from Roberto was headed on by
Calandria for Pablo Alvarez to score, and five minutes later Michel got on the
end of Juan's cross to make it two. Local coach Luis César substituted
both his full backs before half time but it made little difference, especially
when they were left with ten men after Oscar Alvarez was sent off early in the
second half. Pablo Alvarez hit the post soon afterwards before Calandria made
it three, and Dorado turned Pablo Alvarez's cross past Valencia in the last
minute for the final scoreline.
Ciudad Murcia stay in
the top three after a narrow 0-1 win over Málaga B. The home side
had the better of the first half, with Vigil in particular bringing a couple of
good saves out of José Juan. Luque did however cause some problems for
Javi Muñoz with his free kicks. There was little action after the break
though until Iban Espadas took advantage of a misunderstanding between
Muñoz and Silva to nip in and score what was to be the only goal of the
match.
Five sides ended the weekend
on maximum points including Valladolid, who beat Albacete 2-3 in
the last match of the evening. The locals took the lead when Parri lobbed
Bizzarri in the sixth minute, but Aduriz equalised soon afterwards with a
dubious penalty after a foul by Català. On the half hour mark referee
Delgado Ferreiro awarded a second penalty and sent off Buades, this time
converted by Víctor. Even so the locals were creating the best chances,
but twenty minutes in to the second half another questionable decision by the
referee lead to a free kick which Carmona crossed in for Curbelo to head home.
Pacheco pulled one back near the end after good work by Parri, but it was not
enough to prevent his side slipping down into the relegation zone without a
point from their first two games.
Lorca are a surprise
sixth in the table after a 1-3 win at Elche. All the goals came in the
second half, Xavi Moro putting the visitors ahead with a low shot following a
corner. Unanua had to be at his best to stop Moro and Isaac from extending the
lead, but Jauregi kept out Rubén Suárez soon afterwards. Ten
minutes from the end though Perona picked up a pass from Jorge Sánchez
to make it two, and De Carlos added a third from a possible offside position a
couple of minutes later. Rubén Suárez got a late consolation in
injury time with a shot from 30 metres out, but by then it was all over.
Real Madrid allowed their B
team Real Madrid Castilla to use the Bernabeu stadium for their first
home game since their return to the second division, and the 10,000 crowd
weren't disappointed, the youngsters running out 3-0 winners against
Hércules. Soldado opened the scoring as early as the third minute
from Balboa's cross, and Balbao produced a run worthy of Robinho later in the
half to set up the second, which Dani Tortolero ended up putting through his
own net. The visitors were left with ten men almost immediately after the
restart when Turiel picked up a second booking, and substitute Borja Valero
finished things off with a third goal in the last minute.
Real Murcia clocked
up their first points of the new season after beating Eibar 1-0.
Casuco's side had the better of the first half, but didn't have any clear cut
chances until five minutes from the break, when cousins Iván and Diego
Alonso combined with Kreuz for Alaña to turn the ball into his own net.
Jaime hit the bar at the other end a few minutes later, but otherwise the
Basque side didn't trouble Juanmi. In the end the home side could have won by a
bigger margin, especially when Acciari hit the bar in injury time, but they had
already done enough. Eibar could appeal to have the result overturned however
as, following a dispute over television rights, Murcia were refused permission
by the LFP to register new signings. They eventually did so via the Federation
against the wishes of the LFP, and the clubs involved have all threatened to
take action if, as has happened, they include new signings in their line up.
Almería
bounced back from their opening day defeat and their elimination from the cup
(both times against Numancia) to beat Xerez 3-0 and move up to
mid-table. After a dull first half, Francisco headed the home side into the
lead from Soriano's cross, and five minutes later new signing Kale Uche brought
a good save out of Julio Iglesias. Crusat set up half time substitute Michel
for a second goal on the hour mark, and Crusat himself got the third just five
minutes from the end after running on to a pass from Galca. Xerez's only reply
was a shot from Camuñas which Valerio kept out.
Almería's neighbours
Poli Ejido also won at home, coming from behind to beat Lleida
2-1. The visitors were on top early on, and Rubén opened the scoring
heading home a Santos cross in the eleventh minute. Local keeper Bello Amigo
made vital saves from Nakor and Bilic either side of half time, and the home
side were unable to create any real chances until late on, when half time
substitute Calado equalised with a well struck free kick. The game appeared to
be heading for a draw, but in the third minute of injury time Dorado turned
Pedro Vega's cross past his own keeper to hand the victory to his opponents.
