Cádiz needed to beat Getafe in Madrid and hope for the other results to go in their favour to avoid going down, and for almost an hour a miracle was on the cards after Lobos put them ahead and news came in from other grounds that Alavés and Racing were losing.

The 2,500 fans who had made the long journey to Madrid dared to hope, but Pulido took advantage of a lack of concentration to equalise with twenty minutes to go, and Pachón came on to score one himself and set up Riki to wrap up a 3-1 scoreline and send the Andalusians down to the second division.
