Real Madrid hold on to third spot, still just two points behind Valencia, after a last minute 2-1 win over bottom club Málaga. López Caro's side dominated the early play, with Raúl having an early strike ruled out for a non existent offside, Robinho striking a first time volley against the bar, and Cassano putting a couple of easy chances wide. But it was the visitors who took the lead through Bovio midway through the first half in virtually their one and only attack, Bovio driving the ball home after Antonio López's effort was blocked.

Cassano was not having a good day, and after missing a couple more chances he was replaced by Soldado. Zidane came on for Baptista and Málaga added an extra defender Litos, but the new man only served to give away a penalty on Raúl which Zidane tucked home in one of his last appearances in the Bernabeu. Robinho went close a couple of times, but Casillas had to keep out Edgar before Sergio Ramos headed a last gasp winner after Cicinho played Guti's pass across goal to keep Madrid in the hunt for second place.
