Real Madrid dropped two
points behind Valencia after they could only draw 1-1 at neighbours Getafe,
their third such result in a row. Only Baptista and Casillas came out of the
game with any credit for the visitors, the former rattling the bar with a shot
from outside of the area and having another strike cleared off the line by
Pulido, and the latter keeping out a Riki header and a wide shot from
Pernía before the break.
Baptista finally put his
side ahead a quarter of an hour in to the second half after Raúl played
on a cross from Robinho, although he was lucky that referee Puentes Leira
turned down claims from the local players after he appeared to control the ball
with his hand before scoring.
Casillas was in action a
couple of times after that to keep out a Pulido header and another effort from
Güiza, but he could do nothing a few minutes from the end when ex Madrid
defender Tena headed the equaliser from Contra's free kick.
Too late López Caro
realized that his side had blown it again, and although Cassano came on and
Baptista hit the post again in injury time there was no way through. For the
second season in a row Getafe had avoided defeat against their bigger city
rivals, and with this result Bernd Schuster's side are even in with an outside
chance of a place in Europe next year. |
