Osasuna kept up their push for a Champions League spot with a 1-2 win against Basque neighbours Alavés, and Javier Aguirre's team are now only one point behind Valencia and Real Madrid.

The Vitoria based side had not let in a goal in four games and were unbeaten at home since the midpoint of the season, but they fell behind when Webó beat Costanzo after the keeper could only push out David López's free kick.

The locals could have equalised midway through the first half had referee Ayza Gámez awarded them a penalty after Aloisi was brought down in the area, and soon afterwards Jandro headed straight at Elía. But ten minutes into the second half Osasuna went further ahead, Milosevic getting on the end of Delporte's free kick to head past Costanzo.

Alavés were awarded a penalty though soon afterwards when one of the visitors' twin brothers Miguel Flaño produced a diving save from Rubén Navarro's strike, but after the defender was shown a red card, Aloisi blasted the spot kick over the bar.

With the extra man the home side threw everything forward, Elía having to be at his best to tip over an effort from Nvarro. Blago got the ball in the net only for his header to be ruled out for a positional offside of a colleague, and Bodipo finally beat Elía with a header from close up which appeared more offside than the goal which was ruled out.

But time ran out for the locals, and they ended the weekend only just outside of the relegation spots, thanks to a better goal difference than another of their neighbours, Real Sociedad.
