Deportivo moved to within one place of the European spots after beating Racing Santander 2-0 on Sunday evening, only the second time this season they have won two home games in a row. The Cantabrians had been a bit of a bogey team at the Riazor in recent seasons, winning four of their last six visits, but they went behind in the twentieth minute when Víctor headed on a Munitis corner for Capdevila to score.

Diego Tristán and Garay went close at either end, and Sergio hit the post with a long shot on the stroke of half time. Visiting coach Manolo Preciado threw on more attacking players early in the second half, but that left gaps at the back and they were caught out when youngster Iago controlled Manuel Pablo's cross to beat Aouate, his first goal for the first team. The scoreline could have been bigger had the Israeli keeper not saved well from Munitis later on, but by then Caparrós's side had the three points in the bag.
