Mallorca and Espanyol shared
the points in a match in which the only entertainment for the long suffering
crowd was the appearance of around one hundred Harley-Davidson bikes
accompanying the local team to the ground. Both sides had been languishing in
the lower half of the table, and the reason why became apparent as the game
wore on. Neither keeper was particularly troubled until the final minutes, when
the pace picked up as the two sides went for the win.
In the first half there were
only a couple of half hearted efforts from Arango, Pisculichi and Tuni for the
locals and Fredson and Pandiani for the visitors, and they went in at the break
with the scoreline unchanged.
Espanyol's first shot on
target didn't come until a quarter of an hour from the end when Corominas saw
his shot blocked by Fernando Navarro on the line with the keeper beaten, and
substitute Víctor almost scored at the other end after a clearance from
Gorka hit him in the back and bounced just wide of goal. In the end though a
point apiece was enough to keep both sides out of the relegation zone, although
on this form they will be struggling right to the end of the season.
