Another disappointing result for Atlético Madrid, who are now five points off a return to Europe after they could only draw 1-1 against Cádiz. After only picking up one point from their head-to-head clashes with European rivals Villarreal and Sevilla this week, Pepe Murcia's side were hoping to get back on track against an opponent struggling down in the relegation zone. And after an early fright when Jonathan Sesma fired a shot over the bar on the turn, Ibagaza put Kezman away for him to round keeper Limia and score. They had Leo Franco to thank that the scoreline didn't move again before the interval though, the keeper making a reflex save after a long ball was deflected goalwards on the stroke of half time.

Kezman and Petrov both had chances to increase the lead after the restart, but midway through the second half referee Pérez Lasa awarded a penalty to the Andalusians ruling that Galletti had held on to Jonathan Sesma's shirt, waving away heated claims from the visitors that the foul had taken place outside of the area and that the player was in any case offside. Lobos stepped up to covert the kick, much to the delight of another big crowd. Fernando Torres could have put the visitors back in front when he failed to beat Limia after breaking free later in the half, and Lobos fired a couple of efforts wide at the other end. But in the end neither side got the result they needed, and Cádiz remain in next to bottom spot having only won once now in their last eleven matches.
