Espanyol and Alavés
played out a dull 0-0 in Montjuic, a result which keeps the two in fifteenth
and sixteenth place respectively. The early chances were for the visitors,
Nené chipping a shot just wide of the far post and Gorka saving from De
Lucas, and Bodipo also tried his luck later in the half. But the home side
hardly responded, with an out of sorts Pandiani leading the attack, and the
first real effort came when Corominas hit the side netting shortly before the
break.
Lotina decided to ring the
changes early in the second half, Tamudo and Fredson replacing Pandiani and
Juanfran, and things started to improve. Corominas hit the side netting again,
and the Catalans were unlucky to have a penalty appeal turned down when he ball
hit Edu Alonso on the arm. Bonano was proving steadfast in the visiting goal
though, and he kept out long efforts from Tamudo and Edu Costa as time wore on.
So in the end a point apiece, and on this showing both sides are going to have
a long fight on their hands from now to the end of the season if they want to
stay up. |
