Real Madrid drop down to third after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Zaragoza. Víctor Muñoz's side have become a bogey team for the Merengues, especially having knocked them out of the cup recently with a 6-1 victory in the Romareda stadium, and López Caro drafted back Ronaldo and Baptista, with Beckham and Gravesen occupying the defensive midfield positions, in an attempt to turn things around. But only a good run by Robinho caused any problems for the local defence, and the two sides went in at the break with the scoreboard unchanged.

Just three minutes after the restart though Diego Milito gave the hosts the lead after Ewerthon laid the ball across, his fifth goal against Madrid in the last two home games. Ewerthon should have added a second when he fired a shot over the bar from close up, and the Brazilian forward was foiled again by Casillas a few minutes later.

With Raúl and Zidane on the field the visitors threw everything forward, César managing to tip a Beckham free kick on to the bar and away in the dying minutes. But with another defeat and a fourth game without a goal staring Madrid in the face, Zidane headed down Beckham's cross to Ronaldo, who pulled the ball back past two defenders and fired a shot past César for a last minute equaliser.
