Deportivo La Coruña
moved up to within a point of the European spots after beating Getafe 1-2 in
the first match of the weekend. The Galicians were pushed back at the start
though, Gavilán and Redondo both shooting wide and Paunovic having a
penalty appeal turned down by referee Pérez Lima. But a mistake by Luis
García let in Víctor to open the scoring for the visitors, the
local keeper dropping the ball at the winger's feet after Capdevila fired in a
shot following a short free kick.
Getafe could have equalised
soon afterwards had Molina not tipped Alberto's shot over the bar, and Paunovic
had another penalty appeal turned down. Bernd Schuster decided to bring on
Pachón at the break though, and after testing Molina with an acrobatic
overhead kick, the striker got on the end of Gavilán's cross to level
the scores.
The locals were left with
ten men though soon afterwards when Gavilán was shown a second yellow
card, and a few minutes later Depor went back in front after substitute Xisco
headed a floated cross from Héctor down past Luis García. Getafe
did what they could after that to try and save a point, Pachón putting
an effort wide and Paunovic bringing another good save out of Molina with a
header from a corner, but in the end they ran out of time, and will have to
wait for another day to get the three points they need to pass the 40 point
barrier, which Schuster has set as his target for staying in the first
division. |
