Celta drop a place to sixth after losing 0-1 to Athletic Bilbao in the last match of the weekend. Aduriz gave the Basque side the lead in only the seventh minute after Yeste and Iraola combined to set him up, and after that they sat back to defend their lead. Jorge tested Lafuente with a long shot, Lequi headed a corner over the bar and Canobbio missed an open goal before the break, and De Ridder and Baiano brought good saves out of the keeper shortly after the restart.

Javier Clemente gradually brought on more defensive players though, and only an effort over the top from substitute Jesús Perera caused any problems after that. A couple of minutes from the end Athletic were reduced to ten men when Expósito was sent off for a second bookable offence, but they held on for a second win in a row which take them two points away from the relegation spots.
