Header in to roof of net from Mark González corner.
Real Sociedad recorded their
first away win in five months, beating Deportivo 0-1 in the Riazor stadium to
move away from the danger zone. After four defeats in a row Gonzalo Arconada
made five changes to his side, giving a run out to veteran keeper Alberto for
the first time this season and drafting in new signings Stevanovic and Mark
González.
The first chances though
fell to the locals, Rubén Castro not really troubling the keeper with a
soft shot and Diego Tristán shooting wide. Nihat tried his luck at the
other end with an angled shot which went past the post, and Sergio put Alberto
to the test again with a long shot which managed to turn away.
With less than a minute gone
in the second half, the visitors took the lead Garitano getting on the end of
Mark González's corner to power in a header which Manolo Pablo could
only deflect in to the roof of the net. Caparrós threw on an extra
forward soon afterwards, but Coloccini had to block another effort from Nihat
as Real looked for the counter-attack.
Depor did get a couple of
shots on target after that, in particular from Arizmendi and Capdevila, but
Alberto and his defence stood firm for their first clean sheet in ten games.
The Galicians had failed to win at home again, and it is now three months since
their fans last saw their side take the three points. With a cup semi-final
against Espanyol just four days away, they are praying that things will change
pretty soon, otherwise it could be another season without European football.
