Despite extending their
undefeated run to fifteen games, Valencia drop down to third, ten points behind
leaders Barcelona, after they were held to a 0-0 draw by bottom club
Málaga. Despite the result it was a lively match, with the hosts,
desperate for points, making the early running. However Salva was unable to
find the target with a header from an Antonio López free kick, and
Alexis came up against Cañizares when he connected with a corner from
the left winger.
The best chance of the first
half though came on the half hour mark when Miguel fired a shot against the
crossbar. Bovio hit the post at the other end after the restart, but Fabio
Aurelio hit the bar again for the visitors with a free kick a few minutes
later.
Cañizares was in
action later on to save from Edgar, and his opposite number Manolo (making his
first team debut due to injuries to Arnau and Goitia) kept out an effort from
Aimar. With the game coming to an end though Valencia almost got the winner
when Mista couldn't finish off after Manolo could only push out an effort from
Fabio Aurelio. But in the end both teams had to settle for a point which leaves
the hosts further adrift at the bottom of the table and takes Quique Flores's
side down to third on goal difference behind Real Madrid, who they meet next
weekend. |
