Mallorca stay at the bottom of the table after drawing 1-1 with Getafe, a reslut which was the last straw for coach Héctor Cúper, who decided to hand in his resignation the following day. The Balearic Islanders had not won in their San Moix stadium for three months, and they could have fallen behind a couple of times before the break, the first when Güiza shot straight at Prats when free on goal and then when Cortés deflected an effort from Gavilán for a corner.

The visitors had a claim for a penalty turned down by Muñiz Fernández when Güiza's header hit Tuzzio's arm at point blank range, but just two minutes later Mallorca took the lead when Arango fired a first time volley past Calatayud from Pisculichi's cross. It was not to prove enough though, and Bernd Schuster's side got a controversial equaliser a few minutes later when Vivar Dorado scored from close up after Matellán's shot came back off the post, the referee waving away claims for offside and a possible foul on the keeper. The white handkerchiefs came out at the end, and a few hours later Cúper handed the baton over to Gregorio Manzano.
