The match between Osasuna
and Betis should have been a home banker, the Pamplona based side having not
lost in the league in their newly named Reyno de Navarra stadium and their
visitors having not won away all season. However Javier Aguiire's side have
gone off the rails since the beginning of the year, and they fell to a 0-2
defeat at the hands of their rivals who move away from the danger zone as a
result.
Serra Ferrer's side are
becoming a bit of a bogey team for Osasuna after beating them in last season's
cup final, and Joaquín caused several problems for them in the opening
minutes. Josetxo had a header cleared off the line by Luis Fernández at
the other end, but a few minutes later Luis Fernández appeared at the
other end to volley a spectacular shot in to the back of the net after
Cuéllar tried to clear another cross from Joaquín. And
Joaquín could have added a second had he been able to find the target
when through on goal a few minutes later.
Javier Aguirre made two
changes at the break, and his side could have pulled one back when Romeo and
then David López headed chances wide. But a quarter of an hour in to the
second half a long free kick from Joaquín bounced across goal, and Edu
reacted quicker than his rivals to fling himself forward and head the ball in
to the net. Romeo and Muñoz both missed chances to get the locals back
in to the game after that, but to no avail and the Pamplona based side drop to
fourth having yet to win a match in 2006. |
