Sevilla beat a depleted
Racing Santander side 2-3 in the Sardinero stadium to move to a point of the
European spots. The Andalusians dominated the opening minutes, and
Kanouté headed them in to the lead from Martí's corner with just
under a quarter of an hour on the clock. Referee Muñiz Fernández
turned down a penalty appeal by Jonathan after he was felled by Aitor Ocio, but
a couple of minutes later Juanjo equalised after Pinilla head on a long cross.
Within ten minutes of the
restart though the visitors were two ahead, both goals coming from the penalty
spot after Jesús Navas and then Adriano were fouled in the area. Felipe
Melo headed one back late on, and could have saved a point when he went close
in the dying minutes. That would have been a fairer result, but in the end it
was Juande Ramos's side who took the three points to put an end to Racing's
recent revival. |
