Valencia moved up to second
spot, ahead of Osasuna on goal difference, after beating Betis 0-2 on Sunday
evening. The star of the match was David Villa, who put his side ahead shortly
before half time after picking up a pass from Albelda and scored a second goal
later on before being substituted to a standing ovation from the home crowd
near the end.
Both keepers had been in
action before the goal, Doblas saving from Villa himself and Cañizares
from Robert. Villa tested Doblas again after the restart, and Cañizares
did well to tip a shot from Rivera over the bar. The visitors though had the
better chances after that, Aimar going close and Marchena having a goal
disallowed before Villa got his second of the night, making it nine games in a
row without a loss for Quique Flores's side. The defeat leaves the Andalusians
back down to within two points of the drop zone. |
