Deportivo drop out of the
Champions League spots after a surprising 0-2 defeat at the hands of bottom
club Alavés, who were under new management after Juan Carlos Oliva took
over from his ex boss Chuchi Cos midweek. With his side concentrating on the
cup and with three players suspended, local coach Caparrós put out a
much changed side. And although Scaloni put an early chance over the bar, the
visitors caught out their hosts sleeping midway through the first half when
Aloisi headed Jandro's long ball down past Molina.
Rubén Castro was
given his first start in a long time, and after having a penalty appeal turned
down, Costanzo had to tip a dangerous free kick from the young striker over the
bar. But at half time Caparrós decided to make a double change, taking
him off together with Víctor to bring on Valerón and B team
midfielder Iago.
The move though didn't pay
off, and soon after the restart Bodipo latched on to a cross from Aloisi to add
a second. After that the locals threw everything they could at their opponents,
Arizmendi, Sergio and Xisco going close and Juanma poking a shot against the
bar. But they couldn't break through, and Oliva had three points in the bag in
his first game in charge. |
