Zaragoza moved up to the top half of the table and sent Mallorca down to the relegation spots after beating the Balearic Islanders 3-1. Víctor Muñoz's side had gone five games without defeat before this one, but for a few minutes they were pegged back by an efficient opponent. But midway through the first half a poor clearance by Maciel allowed Oscar González to run in and head the ball into the net, and just a minute later Ponzio won the ball off Farinós on the edge of the area and crossed in for Diego Milito to score.

Héctor Cúper brought on Okubo to strengthen the attack at half time, and the Japanese striker brought a good save out of César early on. Ponzio and Diego Milito both had chances to increase the lead at the other end, but with a quarter of an hour to go another substitute Arango pulled one back with a curling free kick which went in off the post. Zaragoza came back soon afterwards though, and Ewerthon set up Diego Milito for him to run on and get his second of the night with a shot past Moyà from outside of the area.
