Another disappointing performance from Atlético Madrid, their 1-1 draw against relegation candidates Alavés extending their run without a win to six matches. Carlos Bianchi's side had the better chances early on, Pablo failing to find the target from a first minute corner and Kezman, Antonio López and Maxi all going close. But Perea had to clear off the line from Bodipo with young keeper Falcón beaten midway through the half, and the Colombian defender was lucky to be let off a penalty appeal after he brought down Bodipo in the area before the interval.

Twenty minutes in to the second half though, Fernando Torres put the home side into the lead with a spectacular strike from Maxi's long cross, the Spanish international's first goal in the league for over two months. But a quarter of an hour later Sarriegui headed Nené's free kick over Falcón for the equaliser, and Aloisi could have won it for the visitors late on, firing a first effort wide and then seeing the keeper somehow get a hand to a second shot in the last minute. The point keeps Alavés just off the bottom of the table, above Betis on goal difference, and leaves their hosts in tenth spot, now eight points off the European places.
