Celta are back up to third
in the table after beating Betis 2-1 in the first match on Saturday evening, a
result which left the Andalusians at the bottom of the table at the end of the
day. The Galicians were two up with only twenty minutes on the clock, Canobbio
turning a low cross from Placente past Doblas and Baiano heading another centre
from the Argentine full back past the keeper. Marcos Assunçao had tested
Pinto with a deflected free kick before the first goal, but otherwise the
visitors hardly encroached on their opponents half and a frustrated Serra
Ferrer made a double substitution with five minutes still to go to half time.
The changes did have their
effect though, and Betis pushed forward after the break looking to get back in
the game. Pinto had to be at his best to keep out several efforts, including
Juanito's header following a corner and another Assunçao free kick. Edu
headed against the crossbar, and Celta's only reply was a couple of counter
attacks which Nuñez and Baiano couldn't finish off. With the game coming
to an end Edu flung himself forward to head a deflected cross past Pinto, but
when Oscar López was sent off for a second bookable offence a couple of
minutes later their challenge ended. |
