Valencia move up to fifth,
just behind Real Madrid on goal difference, after a 1-3 win at Espanyol. The
home side were looking good early on, with Juanfran in particular causing some
problems for Cañizares's defence, but on the quarter hour mark the
visitors took the lead when Vicente played on Aimar's centre for Angulo to
score from the right of the area. After that Quique Flores's side took control,
and Vicente and Aimar could both have scored before David Villa made it two,
driving the ball past Kameni after the keeper could only push out Vicente's
cross.
Valencia continued to
dominate after the interval, and Aimar made it three after a quick breakaway
with David Villa. Espanyol didn't give up though, and Corominas pulled one back
almost immediately after Juanfran crossed in from the right. For a few minutes
it looked as if they might even fight back to level terms, especially when
Albelda was sent off for pulling down Luis García with a quarter of an
hour still to go. But the Chés closed ranks and held on for a third win
in a row which takes them back in contention for the European spots.
